It was really nice watching a game at the historic Azteca stadium (Estadio Azteca) where Maradona scored two of the most emblematic goals in the history of football against England, the first running almost half the field, and the second using his “hand of god”. Here where Maradona led Argentina to win the world cup against Germany in 1986. It is also the only stadium that has hosted two world cup finals in 1970 and 1986.
The game we watched was between the local team Club America and Santos. The score was 1-0 for the local team. It was a great evening watching a live soccer game. Mexicans love to watch soccer, and the stadium was full of people of all ages, both men and women.
Buying tickets
It was hectic to get a ticket at the last minute so we just went to the stadium and bought a ticket from re-sellers outside, who sell tickets at a markup. Mine was maybe $500 pesos (~$25), sold to me at about $700 pesos. We saw locals buy tickets the same way rather than lining up to get to the official selling booth. It was a huge lineup, and also started raining, so we just bought it the more expensive way. We didn’t pay until we crossed the security doors as we negotiated with the re-seller.
